7: Kernel 5.18 – Linux on Alder Lake

Part 7: In the final video I share my results of running the new Linux 5.18 kernel which includes Intel’s Hardware Feedback Interface – aka Thread Director in Windows World.

At its release there was no specific support in the Linux kernel for Intel’s latest hybrid core Alder Lake CPUs, although this is expected to change over time.

Starting with a very quick overview of the new architecture followed by the building of a new system based on an i9-12900K model, I go on to monitor the progress of the Linux Kernel in various ways as it gets updated. I’ll be looking out for improvements over the coming months as the advantages of the asymmetric cores in this desktop CPU are exploited.
