'Are We Losing Our Common Sense(s)? | Kim Arazi | TEDxYork

The rapid advance of technology has inadvertently led to the decline of everyday sensory stimulation. In exchange for convenience, we are numbing our senses, which could lead to the numbing of our cognitive processes, eventually equating us to the very same robots that we are creating.

We can, however, reverse this. Instead of using technology to disconnect us, we can turn it into a tool with which to connect back to ourselves, to each other and to the world around us. By resurrecting our senses through immersive experiences, we can learn to challenge assumptions, bring awareness to our biases, break down barriers and become more empathetic, conscious human beings. And maybe preserve our humanity. Kim is founder and CEO of IN3. She believes that technology should and can be used to create deeper connections and make us more conscious as humans. IN3 is an innovation hub which harnesses the knowledge and learning s of different disciplines to create multi-sensory, immersive experiences, incorporating new technologies to evoke emotion, encourage us to break down barriers, bring awareness to our biases and inspire us to become more mindful of our environment. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
