Do not make this stupid mistake – Intel Core i9-13900K build with Asus ROG Strix Z790-A

I made a stupid mistake while building a new Intel 13th Gen PC. Or at least while trying to do so.
Asus had kindly sent me the ROG STRIX Z790-A GAMING WIFI D4

And Intel sent the Intel Core i9-13900K. So I was planning on stripping my machine down and rebuilding it with these new parts. Plus a few NVMe SSDs and 64GB of Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 ram. Then I hit a snag.

This is a bit of a stupid oversight on my part. Not an issue for me (apart from extra expense) but it’s worth keeping in mind that even the newest Z790 motherboards come with the option of DDR4 or DDR5 RAM compatibility. It is one or the other. You cannot use both. So take care when buying.

There are still arguments for using DDR4. It’s cheaper and there are less issues with XMP. In other words it’s more stable but it can also have lower timings compared with DDR5. So if you’re looking to save money by re-using DDR4 RAM from your current build then buying this sort of motherboard then that’s a good plan. but for me it’s just going to delay content 😭😭😭
