One of the big things I missed out on when starting iOS development and one of the reason why I’ve ended up sticking with it instead of diverting to a cross platform solution is how easy it is to use spritekit elements within your regular views.

When starting iOS development you might get the false sense that you can either A) make a “normal” app that uses viewcontrollers and other uikit elements to build your UI or B) make a more dynamic game using spritekit, with it’s built in physics, collisions, particle emitters, etc. But the fact is, these two options cohabit in a way that makes it very easy to mix and match them to achieve exactly what you want with your app.

In this video I share one of the basic examples of how you can do that by adding a particle emitter to a viewcontroller. Keep in mind, you could use the same idea to add any spritekit element to a viewcontroller to achieve the effects you want in you app. But, remember that dynamic elements like that are obviously more taxing on the system because they require a lot more processing, they can also be annoying to users if overdone. Make sure to use them sparingly and only when they truly add value to your projects.
