VMware ESXi (formerly ESX) is an enterprise-class, type-1 hypervisor developed by VMware for deploying and serving virtual computers. As a type-1 hypervisor, ESXi is not a software application that is installed on an operating system (OS); instead, it includes and integrates vital OS components, such as a kernel.

1. Introduction to Virtualization & What is VM !!
Its a collection of files, as below
when you create :
.VMX – Configuration information.
.VMDK – Virtual Harddisk
.VMSD – Virtual Machine Snapshot descriptor
When you poweron:
.VMX – Configuration information.(read only)
.VMDK – Virtual Harddisk
.VMSD – Virtual Machine Snapshot descriptor
.NVRAM – RAM/Memory Configuration file
.VSWAP – Temporary RAM file like Page file in Windows
.LOg – Logs that changes when ever poweron the VM
.VMXlck – Maintains the integrity of VMX aux file & VMX file
.VMX~ – Track the changes happed after poweron

3. OVA & OVF
OVA is a single file contains Pre-configured VM exported into .OVA format for reuse
OVF is combination of multiple file, ontains Pre-configured VM exported into .OVF format for reuse

4.How to deploy VM’s using OVA templete and configure | password: VMware1!
Deployed 3 ESXI Servers for Lab testing and configured

5.What is vCenter Server & Why we need vCenter
Additional Software from VMWare to manage VMware infrastructure via single console called vCenter(webapplication)
Along with additional features called – Vmware HA, DRS, FT, Update Manager, Distributed Networking & vSAN.

2 Types of offerings in vCenter
1. vCenter standalone server (Windows OS) – till 6.5
2. vCenter Appaliance (Customized Linux along with vCenter) -mostly from 6.5 & 6.7
