Cygwin is a great tool you can use in Microsoft Windows to provide a Linux command prompt and tools for Windows.

i thought i would show you how to use sigwin so that you can use linux commands and windows on a command prompt cygwin is available at cygwin.com one of the most valuable parts of cygwin is the cygwin terminal that allows you to run linux commands but cygwin is more than just the cygwin terminal according to the cygwin site cygwin is a distribution of popular gnu and other open source tools running on microsoft windows the core part is the cygwin library which runs the posix system calls and environment these programs expect what this means in simple terms is that a lot of the core limitabilities and programs that you may be used to using in linux have been ported over to windows if you are familiar with linux and wish you could run some of the commands on windows cygwin will allow you to do this it also means that if you are trying to learn linux commands you can run them in a terminal on windows for practice without having to set up and run a vm with linux on it linux has many powerful and useful commands particularly for working with text files so being able to use these commands on windows is extremely useful particularly for programmers you can download cygwin from cygwin.com and it’s easy to install but i’m going to give you a demonstration of the terminal so that you can see it in action right here i have the terminal icon right on my desktop after having set up cygwin and i’m going to just double click on this and it just brings up a terminal right here
