Intel 13900K & Z790 First Time on LN2 - Overclocking Up To 8.1GHz

It was finally time to test the brand-new Z790 platform on LN2 with my best Raptor Lake CPU. This time getting to full pot/maximum temperature of Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) is very easy as long as your CPU can run it without issues as cold bug is actually back. Some CPUs will not hit -196c no matter what settings you try. The only setting that can help the maximum temperature is the input voltage (VCCIN) and a good range should be 2.2-2.4v but only if you need it. Some CPUs prefer low input for better memory stability and I generally used 1.9-1.95v.

This CPU ended up being quite average on cold, as the P-Cores just couldn’t do 7.5GHz or above stable which is not enough for the highest scores in tests like Cinebench R20, Geekbench 3 and X265 4K etc. My maximum frequency varied between 7.3 and 7.6. 7.6 in GPUPI 1B and 7.3 in the hardest tests like Cinebench R20 with 24 Cores and Y-Cruncher 1B. The atom cores were quite ok and they maxed out at 5.8GHz+ with only 1.35v. Memory was epic and even DDR5-8800 was solid with memory sticks running on air cooling without any heatsink.

The only top scores I managed to achieve were Y-Cruncher 1B and Geekbench 4 in the 24-Core category. Y-Cruncher was quite epic as I beat Safedisk with good margin even with 100-200MHz lower CPU Frequency and with air cooled A-Die compared to LN2 cooled M-Die. On top of those I got Rank #2 Score in GPUPI 1B for 13th Gen and Top 3 scores in Cinebench R11.5 and R15 etc.

I really like this platform as it is pretty straight forward and I look forward to push my memories even higher on LN2 and using this platform for 3D benching.
