Arch breaks too much with updates, it's like Kdenlive every update it breaks at least as mush as it fixes or more. You have to worry about, am I going to lose my years of family photos/videos. I do not want to lose my memories like I did with Manjaro and Garuda. Then the work I am doing is extremely important to me, I do not know about most. But it seems most people that use Distros/arch are not using it for work and storing extremely important things that could destroy their business or them. Just an installation with nothing that truly matters if it breaks or wipes their drives and have to go buy new ones, no big deal.
Will This distro will matters after debian allowed non free software in their installer? Because now debian will work straight out of the box. ๐ค
Spiral Linux is an amazing distro and hope it sticks around for many years. I have also used Gecko which is a OpenSuse installer and both are great systems. I love to see the creator get the attention he deserves.
Personally I prefer Linux Mint and the Cinnamon DE. I recently started using the Linux Mint Debian Edition and it's really good.
Only had to utilize it once but btrfs/snapper on my GRUB is a true game changer out of the box
When I've had the urge to hop, I always come back to Spiral Gnome after messing around. Been loving it
How do you think this OS compares with MX?
Very cool Video as always. Looks interessting. Will give it a try. Thumsb Up and yes you are doing it right. Keep your way. Greetings from Germany
I thought this was BUDGIE— where was the side bar with all the stuff in it like on the other distros with budgie?? or did I just miss it??
NO ONE really NEEDS all new packages every 5 minutes like Arch tries to do- that's a crock– and it causes issues. "Old" packages in Debian? yes- if you count 6 month old without updating.." but all that needing the latest and greatest is a CROCK– it's an addiction like sugar- and NOT necessary.
First of all I know you are in the States. We are celebrating Thanksgiving day here in Canada evenso I still want to with you happy Thanksgiving!! ๐
Now regarding spiral linux, it looks great. I think I might replace mx Linux with spiral. Thanks so much for posting this video!!!!
Thanks to your video Troy I'm in the process of switching to Spiral Linux LXQt on my craptop. Currently on Ultramarine with Pantheon desktop but this is too demanding for my system.
Budgie is an interesting choice
Unfortunately – since its introduction via Solus – Budgie seems to be waning –
This may be – partly because one of the main core developers Joshua Strobl decided to step down from Solus
In January of 2022 – he said he'd continue work on Budgie – but judging by his lack of blog entries – it seems that Budgie is going no-where.
I have to try this, simple, clean look, really like it ..Thanks for this overview ..
Glad to hear Gecko is working out for you. Still keeping my fingers crossed, so that might be it, LOL. Like Daniel Gomes wrote in a comment below, really interesting that one Dev is making two substantially different distros. Kudos.
Hey youre showing it off thank you!
Let me guess, your new daily driver?
Troy, you did justice to Gecko Linux and now to Spiral Linux with these last two videos. Your last two videos were the best. You covered all the features and technical particularities very well.
Which one do you think would be better for very new/bleeding edge hardware: MX Linux or Spiral Linux ?
LINUX FONTS ARE SHIT. I HAVE 27 INCH FULL HD MONITOR AND FOTNS IN EVERY BROWSER IS BLURRY. NO MATTER WHAT I DO, SUBPIXEL RENDERING/LCDFILDERS/METRICALIASES, THEY JUST SUCK. SAME FONT NOTO SANS ON REDDIT LOOKS TERRIBLE UNDER ANY LINUX DISTRO AND I DID TRY ALOT OF THEM.
Thanks
Spiral looks interesting from the way you desbribed it, plus it's debian so i know a lot more commands than on Gecko since i started out on Debian. I'll give it a try too. Great video like usual!
Interesting to see a dev run 2 separate distros. Not seen that before. He must be highly intelligent and hard working.
But it makes sense to offer suse and Debian. One is bleeding edge and the other super stable.
I installed this on a neighbour's potato laptop and it runs well out the box.
This developer always makes his distros look ugly but they are good functionally.
Hi man. I'm curious did you take a look at POP os and if you what do you think about it as a Linux distro?
love your videos ๐
