Freenom offers free domains for life, but do not offer .com, .co or .net domains for free. The five free domains offered by Freenom are .tk, .ml, .ga, .cf, and .gq.

Most website builders offer a free domain including .com domains for the first year.

Wix offers a free domain for the first year with any of their plans, the one downside to getting a domain from Wix is that privacy protection is not included with your domain, you must pay an additional $9.90 for privacy protection.

Weebly also offers a free domain name for the first year if you sign up for their professional plan or above. Domains from Weebly include WHOIS privacy protection at no additional cost, but .com domains cost $19.95 to renew, which is higher than most other domain providers.

Squarespace also offers a free domain for the first year when you purchase any of their annual plans. All domains from Squarespace include free privacy protection. Renewals for .com domains cost $20 per year.

If you are building a website in WordPress, you need to purchase hosting. Many of the hosting providers will give you a free .com domain for the first year.

Bluehost includes a free domain with hosting. Domains with Bluehost do not include privacy protection, Bluehost charges $0.99 per month for privacy protection.

HostGator is another popular hosting website. With their hosting plans, you can get a free domain for one year. Privacy protection costs $14.95 per year with HostGator.
