Wu Mao, or 五毛党 are people (usually soldiers) paid to make fake or pro-China comments on the internet, and they have a very comfortable home on my channel. They allegedly get paid 5 Chinese Mao (about 7 cents) for every comment they leave. They have been changing their tactics, while retaining the goal of soft power influence supporting Chinese nationalism. We explain how Chinese government backed commenters try and shape the western minds, and how they’ve changed to be more savvy at it.
