Regarding the CPUs, the HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 has dual Intel Xeon processors. They are an LGA2011-3 socket, which means the utilizes Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 series. Please note, in order to use the v4 procs, make sure you have an updated BIOS. In general, we recommend keeping your system on the latest BIOS and firmware release. Below are some of the CPUs we recommend. We break it down into 3 categories: Low End, Value, and High End. This is not a complete list and there are a ton of other great options within the E5-2600v3 and v4 series.

We will also show you how to properly remove your old processors. Be careful not to accidentally hit the CPU pins when taking out your old CPU. Also be careful with the old thermal paste. The paste can sometimes flake off and end up inside your CPU pins. We will show you how to handle your CPU and avoid this mistake. We will also install a CPU upgrade and go over step by step instructions.
