#06 - Expat life beyond the 9 to 5 - Leigh Ross Farmer, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Leigh has been a seasoned expat spending time in Spain and Bahrain, however Saudi was never even a consideration. That was until he started receiving job offers that piqued his interest…

After seeing some of the big cultural changes taking place in Saudi, he was prompted to do some more digging. The expected unprecedented growth of the F&B industry in line with the Vision 2030 was a big lure as it aligned with his ambitions for his career.

Since moving to Saudi, Leigh’s own life has matched a similar trajectory, in more ways than one.

Some of the topics we delve into include…

– Identifying your personal drivers is crucial when making the decision to relocate
– Living life as a heavily tattooed Scottish man (/ celebrity!)
– Meeting the love of his life and navigating the cultural processes to get married
– Exploring life outside the day job and maximising the potential from your time
– The Expat Trap – take note if you’re over 40 year olds!
– What Leigh would do if he was to start over in Saudi again – and is living in a compound really necessary?
– What has been the biggest struggle when it comes to moving / living in Saudi
– The biggest considerations when it comes to committing to work in Saudi Arabia – do you homework and don’t just go for the bigger salary when weighing up options
