THE REAL JAMES BOND: Aston Martin DB2 (1949)

Bursting on to the auto scene in 1949, the Aston Martin DB2 pioneered the double overhead camshaft innovations of recently acquired Lagonda and developed an engine that boasted more power but without significant size increase.

Topping speeds of up to 120 mph (very fast for its time), the DB2 effectively reversed the public’s opinion of Aston Martin as a struggling motor company and kick-started its ascension into automotive history.

TIMEWARP… Caught the attention of author Ian Fleming and inspired his choice of the first iconic Bond car (a DB2/4 Mk III) in the novel Goldfinger, followed by no less eleven appearances in Bond movies for the DB Series.

WHAT MAKES IT GREAT… On its third attempt, the DB2 took 1st, 2nd and 3rd place at the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans.
