In their last preseason friendly before the start of the new season, BVB celebrated a 3-1 victory over Dutch record champion Ajax Amsterdam. Julian Brandt quickly put the hosts in the lead after just six minutes, but Ajax was unimpressed and equalized just a minute later with a header from ex-Leipzig striker Brian Brobbey. After the break, BVB newcomer Felix Nmecha got subbed into the game – a lucky move by coach Edin Terzic. The 22-year-old scored a quick brace (54th and 60th minute) and brought Dortmund the victory.
