US-based chipmaker Intel has signed off on plans to invest 30 billion euros as part of a new chip-production facility in the German city of Magdeburg.

The deal includes 10 billion euros in German subsidies, according to news reports. Intel is the latest chip-maker to take advantage of the EU’s eased funding-rules for producers of the critical components, as Europe aims for more independence from Asian manufacturers. Intel is also planning new facilities in Poland and France.
