Dan McCain:
“McCain [born in and] grew up in Delphi and made his career as a USDA Soil Conservationist… McCain served 22 years as president of the Wabash & Erie Canal Association. … He has spent countless hours preserving Delphi’s and Carroll County’s heritage. Under McCain’s leadership. the Wabash & Erie Canal Conference & Interpretive Center was built in Delphi. McCain helped create Canal Park and has brought new life to old buildings and bridges … McCain also helped to develop the trail system in and around Delphi…”

Dave McCain:
Also, a notable citizen and local-politician. David McCain served as president of Deer Creek township and previously ran for mayor in 2002. Dave demonstrates similar passions in his community pursuits, expressing desire for the preservation of historical and nostalgic locations in the county along historic travel-routes. His leadership maintained and financed the renovation, preservation of the historical district and INDOT Hoosier Heartland Highway development. Notably, his work as township president was pivotal to financing the ultimate preservation of Monon high bridge.

The McCains:
Although it was not known that the McCains were at the trails the day of the murders, they have been involved in community event dedicated to the girls.
Both Dan and David McCain have organized several walks into the trails, following the murders of Abby and Libby. David McCain also served on the trail-safety task-force, erected in the wake of the murders. The McCains also urged county council to purchase the CPS building for the Historic Trail System, following the investigation. The request was denied by INDOT and the former social services building was subsequently demolished.
