NVidia RTX 4060 Graphics Card Worth It? 🤔

The upcoming NVIDIA RTX 4060 graphics card has been tested by reviewers using 3DMark, a popular benchmarking software. However, the reviewers are under embargo and cannot share their results until June 28th. Nevertheless, some scores have been obtained, giving us a glimpse of the performance potential of the RTX 4060.

The RTX 4060 is the first desktop GPU to feature the AD107 GPU, but it’s not the first model to launch with a 128-bit memory bus and PCIe Express 4.0 8x interface. These specifications, along with memory capacity, are crucial factors to consider when choosing a modern GPU. NVIDIA has stated that the RTX 4060 non-Ti is designed for 1080p gaming, so if you have a 1440p monitor, you might want to consider older GPUs with more memory and a larger bus, such as the RTX 3060 or RX 6700 XT.

It’s important to note that there is another SKU with the same name, the RTX 3060, which was released last year. The 8GB version of the RTX 3060 has the same number of CUDA cores as the 12GB model, but the memory configuration change has limited its bus to 128 bits, resulting in a noticeable impact on performance. For the comparison between the RTX 4060 and the RTX 3060, the 12GB model is used.

Based on the obtained scores, the RTX 4060 is expected to outperform the RTX 3060 12GB by an average of 22.8% in 3DMark tests. In comparison to the 8GB version of the RTX 3060, the RTX 4060 is projected to be around 47.9% faster. These numbers indicate a significant performance boost for the RTX 4060. However, it’s important to consider that NVIDIA is highlighting the DLSS3 and Frame Generation technologies in its marketing efforts, making a comparison with older generations less relevant.

Reviewers have conducted their tests using an older driver version, 536.20, while the current official version is 536.23. NVIDIA plans to release a new driver specifically for the RTX 4060 on June 29th.

The benchmark scores obtained for 3DMark Speed Way, Port Royal, Time Spy, and Fire Strike Performance highlight the performance differences between various GPUs, including the RTX 4060, RTX 3060, and several AMD Radeon models. These scores provide a comparison of graphics performance across different resolutions and settings.

In summary, the NVIDIA RTX 4060 shows promising performance gains over the RTX 3060 models, making it a potential choice for gamers looking for improved graphics capabilities, especially for 1080p gaming. However, it’s important to wait for the official reviews and benchmarks to get a comprehensive understanding of the card’s performance in different games and scenarios.
