“Money doesn’t make movies, stories and people do. When we started making Shahid, we didn’t have a lot of budget on hand–it was made under 35 lakhs. Rajkumar wasn’t my first choice back then—I couldn’t afford him. But the producers kept throwing his name in my direction and he was the perfect fit. He was the perfect Shahid.

Similarly, when I set out to direct my first film–the first time I said ‘action’, I was given a budget of 50 lakhs. I had no clue how I would do it but then I met Anurag Kashyap. With him as the writer, the film was ready in the next 4 weeks. So, I think it can be said that it’s the stories, your approach to work, your truthfulness, your love for your work that gets you wherever you are!”

About Humans of Bombay –
Humans of Bombay is a movement that started 9 years ago. We believe that every person has a story to tell and we want to help them tell these stories. In these years we’ve published stories across genres – stories of love, hope, faith and courage. And through our storytelling, we’ve built an engaged community of over 5M!

Our idea is simple – to strike a chord with our community and catalogue the beat of humanity, one story at a time.
