How to install and configure DHCP Server including defining Scope – Windows Server 2022
A step-by-step installation and configuration process demonstration of DHCP server (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) within Windows Server 2022. I also explained fundamental concepts of defining a scope, IP pools, IP exclusions and why we use DHCP severs that can handout IPs to clients even outside of the domain (or pre-domain join) in this video.
This demonstration uses Windows Server 2022 server with Windows 11 Professional client. But the principles are same for Windows Server 2016 through 2022 (Windows Server 2022 / 2019 / 2016 / 2012). There are no major GUI differences among most of the previous versions of Windows Servers. Clients connecting to the network (LAN) should be able to obtain IP addresses and DNS information via DORA process regardless of the client’s operating system as long as the client is set as a DHCP client. These includes other Windows devices, Linux/Unix devices, Android devices, printers and other devices with proprietary or open-sourced operating systems. A DHCP server is also a requirement for some network applications and processes such as network boot, PEX which is used during deployment of images via MDT.
