This time I decided to build an adjustable trim router guide jig. You can have a lot of fun with a router. In this video I am showing how to make a router jig for accurate grooves, dadoes and rabbets. By removing the knobs the jig can be used as a simple straight cut jig as well. Save money and built this useful router jig yourself. It is a simple woodworking project and you’ll be happy with the result. Watch the entire video for a step by step guide how to make a router guide jig. Inspiration comes from many places – this one from JSK-Koubou.

I started this woodworking project by fixing aluminium L angles to an MDF desk. Leave a bit of space below the angles to be able to fix the jig to a desk with a clamp while cutting. To fix the angles I used a double sided tape and small screws. After that I cut the desk with a router following the aluminium angle. I used a ⌀6 router bit. I did the same for the other desk though I used the opposite side of the router for cutting – in the video I marked one part of the jig with an “A” to know what side goes with the front of the router. Note that I did not attach the angle through the entire length of the MDF desk, but I left some space on the left and right side of the jig for adjustments. The adjustment mechanism is handled by wood pieces with an ⌀6mm bolt installed in a wood piece with a groove and wooden knobs with a T-nut that holds the jig in place. With this jig you can cut up to 55×5 cm.

Tips:
– Use a smooth thin MDF desk as base for the router jig. The router slides very smoothly on the surface while cutting
– Leave space around the jig that can be used for clamping the jig down
