Genshin Impact stuck on Checking for Updates - Fix: Use IPv4 over IPv6 (Windows PC)

This may not work for everyone, but nothing else worked for me (Reinstalling the game, deleting the Persistent folder, restarting my router).

1. Press WIN+R to open RUN window
2. Type regedit and then click “OK”
3. Paste this into the location bar:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTcpip6Parameters

4. Click on “Edit”, “New”, DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it DisabledComponents
5. Right click DisabledComponents and click “Modify…”
6. Click on the circle next to “Decimal”.
7. Change the 0 in the “Value data” to 32.
8. Click “OK”.
9. You’re done, now just restart your computer!

I have a video showcasing my test that IPv6 was causing me to get stuck on “Checking for Updates” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL4kjLxzOrU

Another solution I found online that didn’t work for me, but may work for you:

Try deleting your Genshin Impact “Persistent” folder:
1. Close Genshin + the Launcher (Make sure to close Genshin from your System Tray)
2. Go to: C:Program FilesGenshin ImpactGenshin Impact gameGenshinImpact_Data
3. Right click “Persistent” and then click “Delete”. You may have to confirm the deletion of the folder.

If you can’t delete it, that means you either have Genshin still running, the Genshin Launcher still running, or just don’t have permissions to delete it.

If you don’t have permissions to delete it, ask your parents to delete it for you.
4. Once deleted start up the Genshin Launcher + launch the game so that it’ll create a new/fresh Persistent folder.

More solutions that you can try:
– Reinstall the game, or
– Restart your router, or
– Use Google Public DNS, or
– Use a VPN

Edit: Looks like I was stuck in Checking for Updates once after a month of no issues – but it happened only when I opened Genshin immediately after starting up my computer. So perhaps this isn’t 100% fool proof, but probably closer to 90-99%. .
