Okay, here we go!

First things first, open up your game and see if you get the message about not recognizing your
graphics card, If you do exit the game completely, turn on File Explorer and navigate yourself to “This PC/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3”

After getting to your sims 3 folder, look for “DeviceConfig.log”, once you find the file click it and open it with Notepad or Notepad+.

Once you open up DeviceConfig you will see a lot of overwhelming information but don’t worry! All you need to do and scroll down and look for where it says “Graphics device info” Once you find that section, you’ll see your graphics card name and vendor.

By the “Name (database)” area there should be a part that looks like this “[Found: 0, Matched: 0]”, if it says “[Found: 1, Matched: 1]” then your graphics card is recognized and your are good to go but if it says “[Found: 0, Matched: 0]” or “[Found: 1, Matched: 0]” keep reading.

After looking whether or not your game recognizes your graphics card, keep DeviceConfig file up, and go look for where you sims 3 game is downloaded, My game is downloaded on my second drive so mine looks like this “This Pc/Goro (D:)/Origin Games/The Sims 3” Yours should be something similar.

After finding your sims 3 installation folder, click on the game folder inside then click the bin folder, after clicking through those you should see two flies called “GraphicsCards” and “GraphicsRules”, copy them and paste them on your desktop or in another folder for Safe keeping,

After backing up those two files, click on the one that says “GraphicsCards”, after clicking that file look for your graphics card vendor by scrolling or be lazy like me and click Ctrl+F and type in the name of your graphics card vendor, after finding your vendor, take a look back at your DeviceConfig file and look for the name of your graphics card.

Once you figure out the name, under the are that says (For example we’ll use Nvidia) “vendor “NVIDIA” 0x10b4 0x12d2 0x10de” Click enter then type “Card 0x” Bring back up the DeviceConfig file and look under chipset and find your device number,
mine is for example is “1f82” DO NOT TYPE IN MINE, TYPE IN THE EXACT THING THAT IS BY THE WORD “Device”.

After typing in your OWN Device name, type in the name of your graphics card and make sure what you typed is matched up with the rest of the cards.

After all that it should look something like this, “card 0x1f82 “GeForce GTX 1650” but with your own graphics card.

Once you finish, save it and turn on your game, once the game loads you cut it off and check your DeviceConfig file and if it says [Found: 1, Matched: 1] then you are good to go but I personally think you should watch the video for this part or check out some of the other resources i’ve linked as i don’t think i can explain this as well in writing but here we go!

Click on the GraphicRules flie then click Ctrl+F and look up the name of your graphics card vendor, once you look it up you should find a line that says something like this, “(match(“${cardVendor}”, “NVIDIA”))”

Underneath this line there will be a bunch of weird looking writing, skip to 6:24 to see what i’m talking about.

Right next to the last line of the weird writing (using Nvidia as an example) type in “or match(“${cardName}”, “*GTX FIRST TWO NUMBERS OF YOUR GRAPHICS CARD OR FIRST NUMBER??*”))” Do not get rid of or add any more barracks or it will not work.

Do not add GTX if you do not have a GTX, I have one so i’m using it as an example like if you have a GT etc, type that and the first two if you have a card with a four digit number or the first number if you have a three digit one.

After double checking save the file and turn on the game, once it loads to the main menu, exit and check your DeviceConfig and it should now say [Found: 1, Matched: 1] and you can play in peace,

I hope that helped, if ya need any help, tell me i’ll help the best i can.
