We’ve had a chance to use Asus’ upcoming ROG Ally handheld after almost a month. You can play games from any storefront thanks to the Steam Deck’s inferior hardware and Windows 11’s inclusion. But does it have the ferocity to defeat Valve’s handheld with a value-oriented design?

There is no doubt that the ROG Ally meets performance demands better than the Steam Deck. But for those looking for a low-cost handheld that supports a variety of features, the Steam Deck still has its place.

We still lack important information about the ROG Ally, but Asus promises to provide more information on May 11 during the launch event for the console. The price is the main thing we’re anticipating because it will help us compete with Valve’s $400 Steam Deck.

Valve has a good chance of maintaining its value crown, but the ROG Ally faces many more challenges. The Steam Deck can cost much more than $400, to begin with. You only get 64GB of comparatively slow storage for that base price. Spend $530 to upgrade to an NVMe SSD that has 256GB of storage. Additionally, 512GB costs $650.

According to Asus, the ROG Ally has “up to 512GB” of storage, which raises the possibility that there are different models, similar to the Steam Deck. It’s possible that the flagship could compete with the Steam Deck even though we might not get a $400 model. It has been confirmed by an Asus representative that the cost will be less than $1,000.
