Troubleshoot new ASUS router: Your ISP's DHCP does not function properly?

Bought the new ASUS ZenWiFi AX Mini (2pc mesh router), but the setup wasn’t successful. The router cannot connect to the Internet! It had the error:

🧨🧨 Your ISP’s DHCP does not function properly. 🧨🧨

Turns out, my ISP created the problem. M1, you can do better.

Solution: Call your ISP to reset the MAC & IP cache. Eg. Singapore’s M1, call 1627.

These attempts did NOT work:

1. Change DHCP query frequency from Aggressive to Normal Mode
2. Switch off ONT for a few minutes and restart
3. Wait for 12 hours, hoping their DHCP will refresh
4. Update firmware to latest
5. Call M1 hotline to trigger network refresh (a self-help option, not sure what it refresh, but it didn’t work)

A research shows other ISPs (Singtel, Starhub) do not have similar issue. Usually a reboot of ONT or wait some minutes will solve. https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/setup-new-router-need-reset-at-isp.6303067/

So if you are a M1 user and you replaced your router, give them a call 🥲

UPDATE: You can also change your new router MAC address to use the original MAC on Asus https://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1044003/. Thanks to Gerald for the great tip! .
