How to Create Custom AutoNumbering Columns in SharePoint List

Creating an Auto number column in the SharePoint list should be intuitive if such column type can be found in the list of available column type options in the SharePoint list but it is not.

I recently took up a task and had to create a custom auto-number column. This was when I found out how hard it is, and I have decided to share this learning journey with you.

I must also mention that ‎the @JohnDayQA   video resource on this topic was very useful while I was solving this challenge.

This is not my regular tutorial. The tone and mode were more narratives than instructional.

I made use of the ID column that is been created as hidden meta-data for every list on a SharePoint list. This worked but didn’t solve my challenge. I needed a custom Auto number. Something like CS/Enquiry/28/05/21/0001. To achieve this, I have to try something else.
