What is Slackware Linux?
Slackware is a Linux distribution created by Patrick Volkerding in 1993. Slackware has been the basis for many other Linux distributions. Slackware Linux is a complete multitasking “UNIX-like” system available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. It’s currently based around the 4.4 Linux kernel series and the GNU C Library version 2.23. It contains an easy to use installation program, extensive online documentation, and a menu-driven package system. In contrast to most modern Linux distributions, Slackware provides no graphical installation procedure and no automatic dependency resolution of software packages. It uses plain text files and only a small set of shell scripts for configuration and administration. Without further modification it boots into a command-line interface environment.
