Is Windows or Linux better for web hosting? Whether or not someone is a fan of Windows on a desktop computer shouldn’t skew their decision when picking the best operating system for web hosting. Linux is a UNIX-like operating system. At a high-level, this translates to a more reliable hosting experience. The drawback to Linux is that it is likely less user-friendly for most people to configure than a Windows web host. I’m a nerd and install and administer Linux on all of my web servers.
