Why DE KLASSIEKER is One of Europe’s MOST HEATED Rivalries | Roots of the Rivalry

De Klassieker is the biggest rivalry in Dutch football, pitting AFC Ajax of Amsterdam up against Feyenoord Rotterdam. The biggest teams from the biggest cities in the Netherlands, where an inter-city rivalry carries onto the football pitch as the grit of Rotterdam clashes with the glamour of Amsterdam. Then, the rivalry was continued thanks to various flash points, such as Johann Cruyff – an Ajax and football legend – joining rivals Feyenoord, and winning the league.
