New Linux Distro: The "Flatpak Remix" of Ubuntu!

A great deal of controversy was created when the recent news came out regarding Canonical forcing flavor leads to abandon Flatpak, with many feeling that the decision was in poor taste. That doesn’t matter anymore though, because now a “Flatpak Remix” was created, that gives Flatpak fans their own “spin” on Ubuntu. In this video, Jay discusses the distribution and why he decided to create it.

  1. This is most impressive. Well done. Thank you. This is awesome. I hope the lovely algorithm loves the high praise for this incredible video

  2. Low key though: if this was a stable remix, I would use it as a daily driver.

  3. Tired of tyranny past two years. Don't need conical doing doing it too. Congratulations on your new distro.

  4. in my mind it would have been wiser to have a script that works on the vanilla distro, kinda like what DT did in order to not fully mantain a distribution in it's entirety, so less hassle at least in theory as i don't know the logistics of it. Don't get me wrong any work in the linux space, be it short or long lived, specific or wide it's always appreciated

  5. Why do we need Ubuntu Flatpak remix when there is Linux Mint and it works even better than Ubuntu? Better to spend your time developing Linux Mint.

  6. Hello i want to start vps business with my own hardware is your tutorial to proxmox something that can help me? (I want to split my 2x 8core cpu and 64ram over 2 clients) want to know if it can help

  7. Hey Jay. Love your content.. I tried the remix iso.. No snap is awesome. However I found Firefox loaded slowly from flatpAak.. ?? My Canadian ISP..?,??

  8. As someone who quit using Ubuntu because of snap, I enjoyed this video and I've tested your remix. It's a great start. I'd love to try this with KDE DE.

  9. Well done! But I see one major problem: It will probably not be possible to upgrade your "Flatpak Remix" distribution to the next version of *ubuntu – the upgrade process will fail, because it will require snapd and the Firefox Snap to be present to work properly in my experience. One could install them manually, upgrade and remove them again afterwards, of course.

  10. Does this distribution also include script/file to restrict snap to be installed like what linux mint did?

  11. Please could you consider also offering this with the vanilla gnome desktop? I would love that. I'm having to run Debian to get a deb based system with gnome but it's an older release and I'm having weird playback issues in YouTube.

I'd rather have Ubuntu as the base due to more modern packages, but with vanilla gnome not canonicals version.
