Setting up Linux on the Rock64 SBC - and MCU giveaway!

After my Raspberry Pi Zero W died unexpectedly, I need something that can run Linux, has USB and has GPIOs – so Pine64 to the rescue with this Rock64 2GB I had laying around. There are also heaps of pre-built images for both SD card and MMC, so I grabbed Debian 12 as it’s got a nice fresh Linux 6.1 LTS kernel.

It’s absolute overkill for my needs, but it’s what I had on hand – the Pi Pico cannot run Linux so I cannot (easily) connect to my Epever Tracer, and using another SBC would have been even more overkill. I didn’t have a use right now for this though, so it would do the trick.

I’m also giving away two Arduino-compatible MCUs as shown at the start end of the video. Just tell me which one you want, and what for, and I’ll pick my favourite answer in a week! This is kind of because I have some spares, but also to make up for a slightly lower quality video, when I’d prefer to keep making higher quality of course.

This device should be able to run Arduino code without an OS as far as I know, but you really should get your hands on some Arduino MCU/SoC’s to properly experience it. If you want to learn more, go join https://www.reddit.com/r/arduino/ as it’s a bunch of very friendly and helpful people that would love to show and teach you more!

New crisp video coming on the 25th with some fun Arduino use and a bit of soldering!
