Netflix has quietly dropped Pearl, the working title of an animated series that was created by Meghan Markle through Archewell Productions, the shingle the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry set up at Netflix in fall of 2020 to create scripted series, docuseries, documentaries, features and children’s programming. Pearl was to be Archewell’s first animated series.

During her candid new cover story with The Cut, the conversation turned to Markle and Prince Harry’s multimillion-dollar deal with Netflix, and specifically, Pearl. In reference to the show’s cancellation, the duchess said, “There’s not much you can do when a company and a division changes their slate.” And she added, “There’s also not much you can do when, even if they think the project is great, the media will report it as though it was only my project.”

david furnish is a talented and hard working producer. The Rocketman biopic was largely his “baby” and it was well received and a great final project.

I imagine Pearl was probably conceived in the early days when Sussexes took newborn Archie to the Furnish/John villa in Italy (France?) instead of spending time with great grandparents Philip & Elizabeth in Balmoral. Philip & Elizabeth who soon would be dead.
