Using all wireless networks around me

In this demonstration, we show how we can exploit all the wireless networks around us to achieve better video streaming from a moving vehicle in this demonstration.  By using OpenFlow Wireless-enabled WiFi and WiMAX networks, we demonstrate the improvement in video quality through simple (naive) use of multiple wireless connections to motivate the simultaneous use of multiple wireless networks.

On November 3, we showcased how a video capture can be streamed from a moving vehicle by using all the wireless networks around us. Driving a golf cart around the CS building of Stanford (Gates), we stream a live video from the driver’s point-of-view to audience in Washington DC—as part of GEC 9 plenary demonstrations.

In this demonstration, we drove two rounds around the CS building, streaming video during each round—showing how our technology can be applied to video streaming from a mobile client to improve from status quo of using a single WiFi. While sheer replication used here is simple (and probably naive), this demonstrates how we can make use of all the wireless networks that is around us to open up bandwidth and gain access to spectrum.

In this demonstration, we make use of our existing platform—OpenFlow Wireless. Using this platform, others can replicate what we have achieved in this demonstration.
