Breakpoint:
Want to play the new Steam release of Ghost Recon Breakpoint on Steam Deck? Or a Linux desktop? It doesn’t run out of the box but here’s how to fix it.

Breakpoint actually comes with both Vulkan and DirectX 11 that you can pick between when launching, although neither of the options currently work giving a DirectX error. Thankfully, you can work around it by changing one single file. A word of warning though: this game has Denuvo Anti-Tamper, and so swapping around Proton versions and going between PC and Steam Deck a lot will get you locked out (as it did for me). It also has the same issue as God of War on Steam Deck, where it can hard-crash and reboot the Steam Deck — but just like God of War, not everyone has that problem.

JSAUX:
Accessory brand JSAUX recently did a poll to see what colours people might like for a Steam Deck backplate and the winners are in.

Currently you can only order a clear backplate, well, they’re mostly clear as it has a sort of frosted look to it which helps cover up the kind of small manufacturing issues you can see with some completely clear designs. People kept asking for colours though, and so JSAUX did a poll on Twitter with the result being Purple and Green as the winners and so they will be doing those sometime from April.

Devs are Unsure:
While the device is most notable for its ability to play PC games on the go, there is a lot more versatility to the machine. For example, the Steam Deck has a Desktop Mode and can be plugged into a dock so users can play it at home on their TV or use it as a home computer. It’s also possible to install a different operating system like Windows or play emulated games. In short, it’s proven its worth as a multifaceted system. However, some feel it’s not future-proof.

GTA Trilogy Launches On Steam And Is Steam Deck Verified

In a recent survey conducted by the Game Developer Conference for its 2022 State of the Games Industry, a number of unnamed devs were asked to shine a light on whether they feel the Steam Deck could have an impact on the industry in the future. In answer to the question of how likely Valve’s device will be a “viable game platform in the long term,” the results showed that 47% were not sure how much of a future the Deck had. Going even further, there were a few individual responses regarding personal thoughts on the Deck, with one responder saying the device had potential until they “started to dig into details.” Another person even said they didn’t know what the Deck was, which is an interesting reply to leave in a question specifically related to the Steam Deck.

Steam Deck Peaked?
Oliver Mackenzie at Digital Foundry published an article discussing the capabilities of Valve’s Steam Deck in the latest AAA titles that were launched last year. In particular, he wanted to see whether or not the Steam Deck could deliver a solid 30 fps gaming experience in very graphically demanding titles, such as the highly demanding A Plague Tale: Requiem, Callisto Protocol, Gotham Knights, and more.

To refresh your memory, the Steam Deck is equipped with a Zen 2 quad-core CPU that boosts up to 3.5GHz, and an RDNA 2 iGPU equipped with 8 CUs and running up to 1.6GHz. This APU is certainly not a strong chip by today’s standards, but in the Steam Deck’s application, it has proved to be a surprisingly adequate gaming APU- as our review highlights.

Plague Tale: Requiem showed impressive results on the Steam Deck. Mackenzie was able to hit a solid 30 fps gaming experience, with just a couple of minor dips in more demanding areas. This was accomplished with the resolution optimizer in performance mode.
