Securing smart home devices using VLAN and firewall rules on Ubiquiti

This tutorial explains how to secure your new smart switch, plug, security camera, or IoT device in your home network using VLANs to provide microsegmentation to keep untrusted WiFi and wired smart devices from accessing your trusted internal network.

The test setup will be using the Ubiquiti UniFi controller on a cloud key to setup the VLANs and firewall rules needed to isolate the smart devices to their own space.

So now when you add new smart devices to your home you can add them to this new VLAN or wireless network you’ve created that limits their access should their security become compromised. .
