The Debian release team has proposed a transition and toolchain freeze around January 12, 2023, and a Debian 12.0 Soft Freeze around February 12 (Soft Freeze, the soft-freeze default software is fully functional and the team will stop feature development, Submit only bug fixes), a full hard freeze around March 12 (during a hard freeze, automatic migration is prohibited for critical packages and packages without automated tests, requiring the release team to manually unrestrict packages for migration).

Debian’s major releases are on a two-year cycle, such as from Debian 10 “buster” in July 19 to Debian 11 “Bullseye” in August 21, and Debian 12 “Bookworm” should also be released in July-August 2023 , depending on bug fixes after feature freeze.
