This is our review of the Ruffwear Webmaster Harness. We are not sponsored by them – this is just our honest opinion of them.

We’ve had the same “go-to” harnesses for a long time (Julius K9). I still love these harnesses, but after a scary incident on one of our hikes, we decided we needed something different for our more serious hikes.

When we were hiking the Manistee River Trail in Michigan, our Border Collie, Selene, decided to roll on the ground (probably in something stinky), and rolled right over a bluff overlooking the river before we realized what was happening. I didn’t panic at first (hubby had her leash attached to her harness), but when the leash went taut, because she was still rolling, she rolled right out of the harness. Luckily, the top of this bluff area was not super steep, and the hubby was able to jump on her before she got to the steep part.

What the Ruffwear Webmaster Harness has that the Julius K9 does not, is the third strap. So not only is there the front chest strap and one belly strap, but another strap behind the rip cage. Since the rib cage is larger than their front, if the third strap is tightened correctly, it should never just pull over their rib cage – which means no accidental escapes 🙂

We still love and use our Julius K9 harnesses; just not for this particular trail that follows a bluff, or similar trails. Our next video will show our girls trying them out for the first time!
