OpenWRT - Install and Configure LTE modem in QMI mode - Quectel EC25 & Wallys DR4029

In this video, we are going to install the LTE/4G module on OpenWRT router and configure the modem to work in QMI mode. I am using the Quectel EC25-E LTE module and Wallys DR4029 router board. The router has a mini PCIe connector for LTE module but it is actually a USB 2.0. Because of this, the guide will also work with 3G/ LTE USB modem. At the same time, this guide can be applied for 3G (HSPA), 4G (LTE) and 5G module.
The steps is very easy: You just need to install the requires drivers and uqmi. When the modem is detected as cdc-wdm, go to Luci and create an interface, fill in the APN information and assign it to WAN firewall zone and you should be good to go.

Video timeframe:

As mentioned in the video, if you router doesn’t have a Mini-PCIe connector for modem, you can purchase a USB to Mini-PCIe with SIM card slot.
There are different modems works well with OpenWRT, for example: Sierra, SIMCom, Quectel; however, please check the supports band of the modem.
