MySQL Database Variables: myisam_max_extra_sort_file_size

In this SQL tutorial we’ll walk you through one of the hottest sql interview questions and answers related to MySQL server and one of its storage engines – MyISAM. We’ll walk you through the “myisam_max_extra_sort_file_size” variable: in the old days of MySQL server, this variable was used on bigger data sets. It was used to make SQL indexes on data columns bearing characters of longer length to use the key cache provided by the MyISAM storage engine.
This SQL variable has been long removed and is no longer in operation starting from MySQL Server 5.0.6.
Note that the MyISAM storage engine within MySQL server, MariaDB server or Percona Server should be used cautiously too – the storage engine is only good for simple COUNT(*) SQL queries. In other aspects, it’s outperformed by the InnoDB storage engine.

Also, keep in mind that the background for this mysql tutorial was filmed in the beautiful island of Tenerife – have you been near the tenerife sea? Have you heard about the tenerife disaster or the so called tenerife airport disaster? Tell us in the comments below.
