DHCP Relay, also referred to as an IP helper, is an option that is configurable to forward DHCP broadcast requests to a DHCP server that is not on the same subnet or VLAN as the requesting PC. In older versions of Junos you would need to configure a DHCP helper, and while it can still be used for forwarding of broadcast traffic over a layer 3 network, DHCP relay is specifically designed for the forwarding of DHCP packets over a layer 3 network.
