Have 31 MLAs, says UDP's Metbah Lyngdoh

Speaking to Northeast Live after the meeting with TMC, VPP, Congress and others, UDP leader and Speaker of the outgoing Meghalaya Assembly, Metbah Lyngdoh claimed to have 31 MLAs on their side, the number necessary to form the government. TMC leader and former Meghalaya CM Mukul Sangma has been trying hard to stitch up an alliance with UDP, Congress, VPP and others to form the next government in Meghalaya, even as Conrad Sangma has declared that he has the support of 32 MLAs and the letters of support have been submitted to Governor Phagu Chauhan earlier in the day today. Deputy CM in the outgoing government, Prestone Tynsong had said that the swearing in ceremony of the Conrad Sangma government would be held on March 7 and PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are likely to attend. Earlier in the day today, Conrad Sangma met the Governor and staked claim to form the next government.
