The users default shell, or command line, is stored in the file /etc/passwd. users van alter this with the chsl command. The root user can change anyone’s shell, users just there own and only to shells listed in /etc/shells. Restricted shells normally started with an r and only allow access to shell buildting like pwd and exit etc.
