Responsibilities:
Database Administration
Act as the Subject Matter Expert for database-related services.
Manage the daily BAU operation of database-related services.
Carry out service monitoring, end-to-end performance correlation, and database performance optimization. Create, review and update system documentation and work instructions to enhance the efficiency of daily operations.
Perform capacity planning to size database resources to meet the demands of application workloads.
Plan, execute, and monitor backup schedules in accordance with business needs and data retention policies.
Review database security, perform database hardening, and apply regular or ad-hoc security patches to ensure compliance with IT security policy.
Coordinate/Support with application support teams to schedule database updates and upgrade databases with minimal business impact.
Provide Level 2 support for database service-related queries.
Perform incident escalation in accordance to escalation procedures.
Coordinate with other functional teams in incident handling, and ensure incidents are resolved or work- around within stipulated SLAs.
Contribute to or drive root-cause analysis.
Ensure that all internal processes and procedures are up to date and in accordance with the company’s directives.
Data Services Provisioning
Perform requirement gathering with application support teams.
Recommend appropriate data services and system capacity according to agreed requirements. Develop configuration policies to optimize security, performance, and availability.
Set up data services according to policies and guidelines.
Set up data pipelines for data analytics and dashboard initiatives.
Coordinate with other functional teams to complete the work required to operationalize data services such as IP address assignment, DNS requests, firewall port opening and security scan, database onboarding, data pipeline creation, database monitoring, and database performance monitoring.
Ongoing review and improvement of process flow, system, and processes through automation, innovation, as well as the adoption of new technologies.
Implementation of IT Initiatives and Solutions
Provide feedback on the design of data services for new systems. Support execution of database services initiatives and business projects.
Requirements:
A recognized diploma or degree in IT or related fields.
Minimal 5 years of hands-on experience in systems and database administration in an enterprise or campus environment.
Hand-on experience in administering MSSQL, Oracle database (10g and above), Oracle high availability technologies such as RAC and Data Guard, database performance tuning and troubleshooting, and database upgrades and migrations tools.
Hand-on experience in data cleansing, data transformation, and data quality management. Hand-on experience in developing dashboards using data visualization tools e.g., Qlik Sense, Power BI and etc.
Knowledge of MariaDB, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
Experience in Windows, and Linux variants, preferably Red Hat and Ubuntu.
Experience in capacity planning, availability management and business continuity management. Experience in project management.
Independent, highly motivated and a proactive team player who can work with minimal supervision. Excellent in written and verbal communication.
The following certifications while not necessary, will be an added advantage:
Database Administrator Certified Professional for MSSQL/Oracle/MySQL
ITIL Foundation Level
Certified Professional in Data Analytics/Data Visualization/Data Virtualization/Machine Learning AWS/Azure Certifications
