Introduction to the VMware Validated Designs

Let’s face it: It’s not easy to design and implement a software-defined data center. Compute, storage, network, operations, automation… there are a thousand ways to put those elements together to make something that works. But not all of them produce the best result.

What you need is a blueprint. Blueprints spell out exactly which elements you need, and the precise way to put them together to create the strongest structure. That’s why we’ve established the VMware Validated Design, or VV²D.

We’ve done the hard work of synthesizing the various software-defined datacenter elements into a standardized and streamlined design that reduces deployment risk, decreases time-to-value and makes it easy to manage the day-to-day operations of your new software-defined datacenter.

The VMware Validated Design enables you stand up and operate an enterprise-class private cloud in weeks, not months. VMware Validated Designs come with step-by-step instructions IT organizations can follow to install, configure and operate the VMware SDDC stack.

The VMware Validated Design development process starts by gathering design best practices from VMware Product Engineering, VMware Global Support Services, VMware Internal IT, VMware Professional Services and Partners to create a standardized design. Then VMware SDDC Engineering authors reusable guidance and tests end-to-end, real word use cases such as installations, upgrades, and operational procedures, against the same standardized design. Customers planning “do-it-yourself” deployments also benefit from following this design, confident that future product upgrades, patches, and so on, have been tested against a configuration identical to their own. Furthermore, VMware Professional Services and partners can build delivery collateral based on this design, knowing that they are deploying with the best possible configuration for a particular outcome.

Not only are the VMware Validated Designs created by VMware experts, they are also continuously validated by VMware using iterative automated testing. The following tests and QA cycles are run to ensure the highest rate of success for customers using the VMware Validated Design:

1. VMware SDDC product integration testing
2. Real world scale testing
3. Functional testing
4. End to End workflow testing
5. Time to Value measurements
