Last week, in a symposium organized by China’s think tank Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies of Renmin University of China, political leaders and scholars worldwide gathered to discuss the global benefits of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Indian scholar Vijay Prashad, who is also director at Tricontinental, said the BRI enables some participant countries to use the funding from China to “build schools” instead of “pay off wealthy bond holders in the West.”
