New Swift APIs Coming at WWDC2023: Let's Speculate!

WWDC 2023 is almost here, which means iOS 17 is coming and it may include new APIs! 🍎

While there are plenty of rumors for potential new iOS features floating around, such as the ones outlined in this MacRumors article, I have not seen any rumors for new APIs that will be released in iOS 17.

But have no fear! 😈 If there’s one thing we’ve learned in years past, it’s that we can use new iOS features to take educated guesses on what kind of new functionality will be made available to third party app developers. For instance, in iOS 16, Apple announced the Apple Weather Service alongside WeatherKit. They also announced ActivityKit alongside Live Activities, giving developers a whole new way to integrate their apps with the iOS platform.

That begs the question: What do these new features mean for the next year of iOS app development? For example, will the revamped Control Center allow developers to incorporate their app into a user’s Control Center? And what kind of new stuff will we be able to do in the Dynamic Island? We’ll find out soon enough!

🙋‍♂️ With the rumors mentioned in this article in mind, what new APIs are you hoping for this year? Are there any existing APIs you’re hoping Apple will improve this year? Let me know down in the comments!
