What are type A, PTR, NS, MX, CNAME resource records | BIND DNS in Hindi

What are type A (address), PTR (pointer record), NS (name server), MX (mail exchange), CNAME (canonical name) DNS resource records.

NS (Name Server): shows authoritative name servers for the domain. We have to specify at least one. Since we are only implementing master name server for domain “example.com” so we have created 1 NS entries for name server.

MX (Mail Exchanger): is used to give the information about mail servers responsible for a particular domain. We can also specify priority. The lower priority mean more importance.

A (Address): define IP address for the hostname. “master” has IP address “172.24.0.1”.

PTR (Pointer): define hostname for IP address. If we have defined the reverse zone as “0.24.172.in-addr.arpa” and we have made entries of “1” in “reverse” zone file as “master.example.com.” i.e. “172.24.0.1” point towards “master.example.com.”.

CNAME (Canonical Name): used for creating aliases for hostname. It is bad habit to create CNAME record for other CNAME record. We created aliases “www”, “download”, “mail”, “imap”, “smtp” and “pop” for “master” i.e. we can refer “master.example.com” as “www.example.com” and “download.example.com”. All 3 points to same IP “172.24.0.1”.
