Guitarist Mark Sheehan Said this Before Death, Try Not to Cry ðŸ˜
Guitarist for the Irish pop band the Script, Mark Sheehan, passed away at the age of 46 following a brief hospital stay.
In 2001, Sheehan, along with lead singer Danny O’Donoghue and drummer Glen Power, established the band.
Mark Sheehan, beloved husband, father, brother, bandmate, and friend, passed away today in hospital following a brief illness, the band said on their social media platforms.
“At this difficult time, the family and the band ask that fans please respect their privacy.”
Sheehan has three children with his wife, Reena Sheehan, whom he had met when she was a session vocalist.
O’Donoghue explained to Sunday World last year that Sheehan had taken a break to spend time with his family after the guitarist missed the band’s US leg of their tour. He continued by saying that everyone agreed with Sheehan’s decision and that they were “a band of brothers” who would always support each other.
Later, Sheehan got back together with the rest of the band to play a string of performances across Ireland. This summer, the band will be touring the UK and Europe in support of American singer Pink.
Both O’Donoghue and Sheehan are Dublin natives and have been close friends since they were 12 years old.
Released in 2008, The Script’s self-titled first album quickly rose to the top of the charts in both the United Kingdom and Ireland. We Cry, Breakeven, and The Man Who Can’t Be Moved were all featured on it, with the last reaching No. 2 on the UK singles chart.
The band has released more albums that debuted at No. 1 in the UK between 2010 and 2019 than any other Irish group.
Brian McFadden, a former member of the band Westlife, said the news was “devastating” in a tweet. He said, “Mark was one of the good guys!”
After Stephen Gately’s untimely death in 2009 from an undiagnosed heart issue, former Boyzone singer Mikey Graham commented, “Today we lost another young legend of music.
I empathize and share the anguish of Glen and Danny and their families at this time. I want you to know how much you have my love and support right now. Mark, your music will be what takes you home.
“Thinking of you all at this time,” ex-Love Island anchor Laura Whitmore posted on Instagram. Mark was an exceptionally pleasant and gifted man.
OneRepublic lead singer Ryan Tedder called Sheehan “one of the nicest, most genuine people I’ve ever had the pleasure of touring with and getting to know” on Twitter. He said, “Mark, u will be missed.”
Catherine Martin, Ireland’s minister for culture, described Sheehan’s death as “a great shock to music lovers everywhere and to the Script’s legions of fans around the world.” To his loved ones, fellow band mates, and friends, I offer my sincerest sympathies.
