Your domain name is the URL address that people type in to access your website. When it comes to ranking for a specific keyword, having that keyword in your domain name can be one of the best ways to achieve it. While many businesses use their brand name as their domain name, it’s essential to know that having a keyword in your domain name can be beneficial.

For example, let’s say I’m looking for a folder printing service, and I search for “folder printers” on Google. The top organic search result is folderprinters.com. This website has a high domain authority, which I explain in my first video, and they also have a Google My Business profile that takes up a significant portion of the right-hand side of the search results.

The next search result, companyfolders.com, has a domain authority three times higher than folderprinters.com, which helps them outrank websites with a higher domain authority. This is just one example of how a domain name can play a role in showing up in search results.

Another example is when searching for “Denver yoga.” The top result is denveryogatherapy.com, with a domain authority of 7, followed by reconnectionyogatherapy.com, with a domain authority of 5. These websites are outranking others with a much higher domain authority because “yoga therapy” is part of their domain name.

If you have a specific keyword you want to rank for quickly, creating a website with that keyword in the domain name can be an excellent way to fast-track your efforts. You can find various websites like GoDaddy and Squarespace that allow you to search for different domains to see what’s available and at what cost.

While having a cool business name as your URL may seem tempting, if your business or website domain name isn’t set in stone, choosing a domain name with a keyword you want to rank for can help you gain early traction online.
