SharePoint/Microsoft Lists Playlist template – first look

This is a quick first look at the new “Playlist” template for SharePoint/Microsoft Lists that’s starting to roll out. To some extent, this fills a gap left in the migration from Stream (classic) to Stream (on SharePoint). It’s a nice implementation and could be useful in certain situations, but there are a couple of minor shortcomings.

1) No integrated way to determine the order of the videos. This is easily remedied with the addition of a number column and an adjustment to the Sort setting in the view. There are other ways to work around this problem, but that’s the cleanest I can think of.
2) The “Playlist” layout doesn’t seem to work in the List web part on a SharePoint page. This could be a legit bug or just some piece of the function/template that hasn’t been added yet. It’s not uncommon for new features to roll out in bits and pieces, so I’ll check back in a while to see if that fixes itself.
